  <title><![CDATA[Tech research on seaweed-coral competition featured by Discover, NPR]]></title>
  <body><![CDATA[<p>A recent article in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences by Doug Rasher, Biology graduate student, and Mark Hay, Teasley Professor of Environmental Biology has been featured in Discover Magazine, by NPR, and by many other media outlets.  The study reports the first demonstration that several common species of seaweeds can use chemical means to kill corals upon contact.  This suggests that the proliferation of seaweeds may be part of the reason why coral reefs are declining worldwide.
