Georgia Tech students who have outstanding grades and leadership qualifications should consider applying for nationally competitive scholarships. In order to meet next yearâs deadlines, students should start planning now to apply.
Sophomores and Juniors
Goldwater Scholarship www.act.org/goldwater: sophomores and juniors in science, technology, engineering, and math with a 3.9 GPA and experience with research should contact Dr. Karen Adams (karen.adams@provost.gatech.edu) to consider applying for a Goldwater Scholarship. Georgia Tech nominates four students each year for this national competition; students can work with Dr. Adams on essays during the summer and late fall. Campus deadline is January 11, 2012.
Truman Scholarship www.truman.gov: juniors who have public service experience, a 3.9 GPA, and plan a career in public service should contact Mr. Paul Hurst (paul.hurst@provost.gatech.edu) to discuss applying for a Truman Scholarship. Students work on essays during the summer and fall prior to the January deadline.
Udall Scholarship www.udall.gov: sophomores and juniors who work with the environment, have a high GPA, and plan careers in an environmental area should contact Dr. Karen Adams (Karen.adams@provost.gatech.edu) to consider applying for a Udall Scholarship. Ideally students should contact Dr. Adams during the summer to discuss plans and organize essays prior to the February deadline.
Seniors
The campus deadline for many nationally competitive scholarships open to seniors is September 9. Students with a 3.9 or higher GPA should work with the fellowship advisor listed below during the summer to prepare for this early fall deadline.

NSF Graduate Research Fellowships www.nsfgrfp.org: open to seniors, first-year graduate students, and first-semester second-year graduate students in science, technology, engineering, and math. This NSF Graduate Research Fellowship is a three-year award for those planning a research PhD at a U.S. university. The national deadline is in November.
