The\nGeorgia Tech Police Department (GTPD) has planned activities across campus to\nremind students, faculty and staff to keep their personal safety top of mind as\nwell as to take an active role in keeping the campus safe.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\n\n\u003Cp\u003EAs part of\nsafety day activities, there will be demonstrations by GTPD\u2019s K-9 unit along\nwith Segway demonstrations by members of the Ambassadors Force of Downtown\nAtlanta. GTPD officers will also be on hand to answer questions from students,\nand information booths will include representatives from Emergency\nPreparedness, the Georgia Tech Equestrian Team and others.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\n\n\u003Cp\u003EOne of\nGTPD\u2019s newest safety tools, Sky Cop, will also be deployed and demonstrated.\nSky Cop, purchased through a grant from the Department of Homeland Security, is\na mobile surveillance system designed to strategically monitor locations around\ncampus. \u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\n\n\u003Cp\u003E\u201cSafety is\nour top priority, and this annual event allows us to showcase some of the tools\nthat we use to help protect campus,\u201d said Georgia Tech Police Chief Teresa\nCrocker. \u201cWe depend on students, faculty and staff to be our partners in\nkeeping the campus community safe by immediately reporting when they see\nsomething that appears to be out of place or suspicious.\u201d\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\n\n\u003Cp\u003ETo\nemphasize the importance of this partnership, GTPD launched an educational\ncampaign modeled after the national \u201cSee Something, Say Something\u201d initiative\nto encourage individuals to take an active role in the safety and well-being of\nthe campus by reporting dangerous or suspicious activity.\u0026nbsp; \u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\n\n\u003Cp\u003EIn\naddition, GTPD is urging students to sign up for Jacket Guardian, the new\nmobile safety tool. The system, provided free of charge, utilizes Smart 911 and\nGPS technology to enhance police response. \u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\n\n\u003Cp\u003EJacket Guardian\nsubscribers can voluntarily opt in and share critical information that can only\nbe accessed by public safety officials in an emergency when users activate the\nalarm from their phones. Before traveling from one place to another, such as\nwalking home at night, users can also activate the system\u2019s timer on their\nmobile device.
