North Avenue Apartments Dedicated for LEED Gold Distinction

Following the North Avenue Apartments (NAA) attaining LEED
Gold status for Existing Buildings (EB) Operations and Maintenance (O&M) in
December, the complex was dedicated this week to note the honor.

Georgia Tech President G. P. “Bud” Peterson and Executive
Director of Housing Mike Black made remarks in front of the apartments
Thursday, Feb. 9.

With a 2,000-bed capacity, five buildings and nearly one
million square feet of space, the student apartment community is the largest
university housing complex in the world to achieve the LEED EB O&M
certification. Peterson commended staff, who spent three years working together
to upgrade cleaning, operations and maintenance systems for the apartments,
noting that such a transformation could only have been achieved by those
committed to a common vision and to Georgia Tech students.

The Zelnak Center Basketball Facility, Old Civil Engineering
Building, Women’s Softball Complex and Klaus Advanced Computing Building
accompany the NAA on the list of LEED Gold certified buildings on campus; the
College of Management is certified Silver. As of 2009, all new buildings and
renovations on Tech’s campus are built to LEED gold specifications but must be
reviewed and approved by the United States Green Building Council for
certification.

revisit them. It's as though the act of writing the thing down frees me
