  <title><![CDATA[2012 WST Distinguished Lecture]]></title>
  <body><![CDATA[<p><strong>"Women in Science and Engineering: Policies, Practices, and Potential"</strong></p><p><strong>Biography:</strong><br />
Jane Z. Daniels in a national leader for the advancement of women in science
and engineering.&nbsp; She has been at the helm of the the nation's most
significant programs and initiatives for women in the sciences.&nbsp; Daniels
is immediate past Director of the Clare Boothe Luce Program at the Henry Luce
Foundation--the single most significant private source of support for women in
the sciences, mathematics, and engineering.&nbsp; She was the founding
president of the Women in Engineering Pro-Active Network (WEPAN); Program
Director of the National Science Foundation's Program for Women and Girls
(while on leave from Purdue); and for more than 20 years, the Director of the
Women in Science Engineering Program at Purdue University, the first program
for women in engineering in the United States.&nbsp; <br />

Jane Daniels is the author of more than 60 articles and chapters on gender,
organizational effectiveness, and science and engineering education.&nbsp; She
holds M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from Purdue University, and is a Fellow of the
Society of Women Engineers and the Association for Women in Science.<br />

<strong>Abstract:</strong><br />
Women's participation and status in the sciences and engineering has increased
dramatically over the last 50 years.&nbsp; In her talk, Daniels will share
share her perceptions of, and involvement in, the progress that has
occurred.&nbsp; She will describe policies and practices that have had
significant impact on women's numbers and status in education and employment in
sciences and engineering; and share strategics for advancing women in
