{"116621":{"#nid":"116621","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Re-hand Wins 2012 InVenture Prize","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003ERe-Hand, a software-assisted home-use hand assessment and rehabilitation device, won the 2012 InVenture Prize in front of a live television audience at the Ferst Center for the Arts last night.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u201cIt was amazing,\u201d said Re-Hand team member Daphne Vincent, who graduated in December of 2011 with a degree in biomedical engineering. \u201cWe are so excited. We now have our first investment and we will be able to get our invention into the hands of the people that really need it.\u201d\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EAs the winner, Re-Hand received a cash prize of $15,000, a free U.S. patent filing by Georgia Tech\u2019s Office of Technology Licensing (valued at approximately $20,000) and automatic acceptance to the 2012 class of Flashpoint, a Georgia Tech startup accelerator program.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EVincent\u2019s team included three other biomedical engineering majors: Alkindi Kibria, Elizabeth LeMar and Kunal Dean MacDonald.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u201cThe competition was nerve-racking, exhilarating and thrilling,\u201d said Vincent \u201cWe worked really hard over the last year and especially over the past two months.
