Due to recent studies demonstrating the importance of cellular mechanical properties for a variety of therapeutic properties, we sought to investigate if MSCs undergo mechanical alterations during ex vivo expansion. We show before detection of senescence markers, MSCs undergo a series of mechanical changes that ultimately hinder in vivo therapeutic efficacy.

Doug Ollerenshaw - Advisor, Garrett Stanley, PhD

"Linking Tactile Sensation with the Underlying Neural Code"

The goal of this project is to combine whisker based tasks in rats with recordings of neural activity to explore possible neural codes underlying tactile sensation. This work is applicable to the field of neural prosthetics, which seeks to interface with the nervous system to replace lost sensory and motor function. Better knowledge of how ongoing neural activity affects a sensory percept is critical for the success of engineered interfaces.

The Graduate and Post-Doc (GaP) Seminar Series is a weekly event of research presentations by two graduate students or post-docs conducting bio-related research. The series is organized and sponsored by the Parker H. Petit Institute for Bioengineering and Bioscience (IBB) with additional support from the Wallace H. Coulter Department of Biomedical Engineering. It is held every Wednesday at 12:00pm in IBB 1128 and refreshments are provided. If your research group or department would like to present at future seminars, please contact Manu Platt, PhD.

Graduate and Postdoc (GaP) Seminar Series - Kate McAndrews and Doug Ollerenshaw presenting

{"65807":
"path_740":"http://www.tlwarc.hg.gatech.edu/sites/default/files/styles/740xx_scale/public/images/GaP_Logo_-_square_0.png?itok=xFPLw_YI"}},"135341":
"path_740":"http://www.tlwarc.hg.gatech.edu/sites/default/files/styles/740xx_scale/public/images/katemcandrews_0.jpg?itok=ESnTyMI9"}},"135171":
"path_740":"http://www.tlwarc.hg.gatech.edu/sites/default/files/styles/740xx_scale/public/images/doug_ollerenshaw_0.jpg?itok=s9aHi3Bu
65807","135341","135171
Parker H.
