  <title><![CDATA[Alumnus Mickey Wade, MSNE '87 and Ph.D. '91 Appointed VP and Director of the DIII-D National Fusion Program]]></title>
  <body><![CDATA[<p>Dr. Mickey Wade (MSNE 1987, Ph.D. NE 1991) has been appointed Vice President and Director of the <a href="http://www.ga.com/energy/d3d.php" target="_blank">DIII-D National Fusion Program</a>, the largest tokamak research program in the USA and one of the world's leading such programs.</p><p>Dr. Wade has more than 20 years of experience with DIII-D, the last seven with General Atomics as the program’s Director of Experimental Science Division.&nbsp; He assumed his new position on March 12, 2012.</p><p>Dr. Wade’s experience includes award-winning research collaboration with Oak Ridge National Laboratory. While acting as the Senior Research Scientist at Oak Ridge, he provided the Woodruff School with a <a href="http://www.nre.gatech.edu/alumni/nuc_wade.shtml" target="_blank">testimonial</a>, in which he recalled how a book on fusion energy written by<a href="http://www.me.gatech.edu/faculty/stacey.shtml" target="_blank"> Dr. Weston Stacey </a>inspired him to come to Georgia Tech in pursuit of his graduate degree.</p><p>Dr. Wade is a Fellow of the American Physical Society, and is well respected in the international fusion community.</p>]]></body>
