Tech Students Deliver at Meeting of the Minds Conference

Eight undergraduate students represented Georgia Tech at the 7th annual ACC Meeting of the Minds Conference hosted by Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, VA, this past spring. The conference, which is funded in part by revenue generated from athletic events by the member institutions of the Atlantic Coast Conference, is an opportunity for selected undergraduate students to present their research and scholarship in a professional setting and meet fellow students from peer universities. Approximately 100 students attended the event from 40 different disciplines.

The following Georgia Tech students gave impressive presentations.

Sheridan E. Ackiss (Mathematics) Hydrated Sulfates in the Southern High Latitudes of Mars

Brice I. Hwang (Chemistry & Biochemistry) GFP Chromophores as Fluorescence Ligands for Detection and Activation of Nuclear Receptors

Kanav Jain (Biomedical Engineering) Permutations of short sRNA segments for sRNA-mRNA interaction study

Shibani D Kansara (Management) Above and Beyond, Again and Again: A Model of OCB, Motive Fulfillment, and Feedback

Myong Joon Kim (Biomedical Engineering) Study of Vertical Leg Stiffness In Asymmetrical Running

Radu Reit (Biomedical Engineering) Vertically Aligned Carbon Nanotubes as Active Electrodes for Metal Substrate Supercapacitors

Robert S. Rule (History, Technology and Society) Obstacles to Women's Participation in Chemistry and Computer Science

Sarah C. Weber (Biology) Spatial Variation in Nutrients, Pigments, Particles, and Phytoplankton Abundance in the Amazon River Plume

The Meeting of the Minds Conference is an excellent opportunity for students to learn valuable presentation skills – ones that will serve them well during and after college. Student interested in learning more about this conference and other presentation opportunities, should visit the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program website www.undergradresearch.gatech.edu.
