The appointment is effective August 1.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u201cWe are extremely pleased that a\u0026nbsp;scholar, administrator, and teacher of Dr. Laband\u2019s stature is joining the college.\u201d said Jacqueline J. Royster, Dean of Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts. \u201cThe appointment marks a new decade of leadership for the School of Economics, and I am confident that he will continue the outstanding momentum of the school\u0027s undergraduate, Master\u0027s, and Ph.D. programs.\u0022\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EDavid Laband earned an M.S. and Ph.D. in Economics from Virginia Polytechnic Institute. He currently serves as Professor and Director of Graduate Programs for the economics department at Auburn University, where he has focused on building the Ph.D. program and is heading the department\u2019s capital campaign. Previously, he chaired the economics department at Salisbury State University, Maryland.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EAn applied micro-economist, Professor Laband is well-known in the field of economics.\u0026nbsp;His research, widely cited, includes substantial work in several of the school\u0027s strategic areas, particularly environmental economics, labor economics, and micro-economic analysis. He is a popular teacher who has been repeatedly recognized for teaching excellence.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThe author of five books and editor of four collections, Dr. Laband has had published over one hundred and thirty articles in prestigious journals including the \u003Cem\u003EQuarterly Journal of Economics, Journal of Political Economy, Review of Economics and Statistics, Journal of Labor Economies, and the Journal of Human Resources.\u003C\/em\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u201cI am delighted to be joining the faculty of Georgia Tech and the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts,\u201d Laband said. \u201cI\u0026nbsp;look forward to working across the university community to enhance the contributions of the School of Economics and help develop an internationally prominent program.\u201d\u003C\/p\u003E","summary":null,"format":"limited_html"}],"field_subtitle":"","field_summary":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EFollowing a national search, the Georgia Tech Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts has selected David Laband to chair its School of Economics.
