Faculty, staff and administrators devote significant resources to the provision and maintenance of a safe and secure campus community. Though we have a staff of more than 80 police officers patrolling the campus, it is important to remember that we are located in a large, urban environment.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EAs your student begins college at Tech, they should understand and embrace the following safety tips.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cul\u003E\u003Cli\u003EIn an event of an emergency, students should call the Georgia Tech Police Department (GTPD) at 404.894.2500. Students should program this number into their cell phones.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003EIf in need of late-night campus transportation, use the Stingerette after-hours shuttle service. Students should also program 404.385.7433 into their cell phones.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003EStudents should remove all valuables from their vehicle to help prevent break-ins. Leaving any items in view \u2014 GPS devices, laptops, purses, spare change, books and gym bags \u2014 put a vehicle at increased risk for a break-in.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003EIf a suspicious or armed person demands property, students should comply with the request then immediately seek police assistance.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003EIf your student sees something suspicious contact the Georgia Tech Police immediately.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003EKeep doors and windows locked, especially when your student is not in their room.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003ERegister all laptops and bicycles to help the recovery process in the event of theft. Jacket Guardian allows cellphone users to make an emergency call directly to the Georgia Tech Police Department (GTPD), allowing the GTPD respond more quickly. It provides a proactive \u0022timer\u0022 feature that allows students to specify how long it will take to complete certain activities and sends an alert to the police if the timer expires and it is an opt-in system that enables users\u0027 profile information to appear in the Atlanta, or any, Smart911 center. Sign up for free at \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.police.gatech.edu\/services\/jacketguardian\/\u0022\u003Ewww.police.gatech.edu\/services\/jacketguardian\u003C\/a\u003E.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003C\/ul\u003E\u003Cp\u003ECampus Prevention Measures:\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cul\u003E\u003Cli\u003EGeorgia Tech has 80 sworn police officers that patrol campus 24-hours a day on foot, motorcycle, bicycle, car, Segway and sometimes with a K-9 companion.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003EAtlanta Police and Georgia Tech Police work together daily to increase public safety around the perimeter of the campus.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003EThe Stingerette after hours transport runs from 6 p.m. \u2013 7 a.m., so students do not have to walk on campus after dark.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003EThere are 190 emergency \u201cblue\u201d phones located throughout the campus.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003EKey or secure card entry to all residence halls\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003EGeorgia Tech provides free training and safety classes in self defense, sexual violence, alcohol safety and emergency preparedness.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003ECounseling services available 24-hours a day through the Georgia Tech Counseling Center.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003EHousing staff available 24-hours a day.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003EGeorgia Tech Emergency Notification System (GTENS) emergency text message system in place for all students who sign up. Students should sign up at passport.gatech.edu.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003ESkyCop Cadet Mobile Surveillance Unit is a portable, video surveillance trailer used on Tech\u2019s campus that enables Georgia Tech police officers to remotely monitor areas from their patrol cars.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003ECampus outdoor siren warning system.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003EEmergency alerts to classrooms are delivered through computers and projectors that are connected to the campus computer network.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003EStudents are required to enter emergency contact information on Buzzport.
