Sonic Generator will also present music on a smaller scale: a work by Austrian computer-music maverick Karlheinz Essl combines toy piano with amplified sounds to create quiet, meditative resonances.

In celebration of its fifth anniversary season, Sonic Generator reprises music by Jonathan Kramer for clarinet and live electronics. Sonic Generator performed the piece on its inaugural concert, collaborating with Georgia Tech students and faculty to recreate the work’s analog tape-loop system in the digital realm. The show also features music by Randall Woolf, a long-time favorite composer of Sonic Generator audiences; a nature-inspired work by composer and percussionist Nathan Davis; and violin music by Jesper Nordin, whose music combines elements of Swedish folk music, rock music, and improvisation.

Sonic Generator, Georgia Tech’s chamber music ensemble-in-residence, explores the ways in which technology can transform how we create, perform, and listen to music. The ensemble, comprised of some of the top classical musicians in Atlanta, works closely with Georgia Tech faculty and students to present concerts that bring cutting-edge technologies to the world of contemporary classical music. Sonic Generator was recently recognized by Atlanta Magazine in its 2009 “Best of Atlanta” list.

This concert is sponsored by Georgia Tech’s College of Architecture, where students, faculty, and researchers work across boundaries to advance knowledge of designed environments at all scales, producing new realms of experience and creativity. Sonic Generator is also supported by Georgia Tech’s GVU Center, which seeks to advance the state of the art of the interaction between people, computing machines, and information, and by the School of Music and the Center for Music Technology,

For more information, visit http://www.sonicgenerator.gatech.edu.

  <status>1</status> <created>1284652521</created> <gmt_created>2010-09-16 15:55:21</gmt_created> <changed>1475896047</changed> <gmt_changed>2016-10-08 03:07:27</gmt_changed> <promote>0</promote> <sticky>0</sticky> <teaser></teaser> <type>news</type> <sentence></sentence>

Georgia Tech’s chamber music ensemble-in-residence, Sonic Generator, kicks off its fifth anniversary season with a free concert at the Reinsch-Pierce Family Auditorium at the Georgia Tech College of Architecture on Thursday, October 7, 2010, at 8 p.m. The concert features compositions by Randall Woolf, Jonathan Kramer, Karlheinz Essl, Gene Pritsker, Jesper Nordin and Nathan Davis.

  <dateline>2010-09-16T00:00:00-04:00</dateline> <iso_dateline>2010-09-16T00:00:00-04:00</iso_dateline> <gmt_dateline>2010-09-16 00:00:00</gmt_dateline>
Free concert will combine virtuosic performance with cutting-edge technology.
  <sidebar></sidebar>
jason.freeman@gatech.edu
  <location></location> <contact>
Jason Freeman

(404) 385-7257
</contact> <boilerplate></boilerplate> <boilerplate_text></boilerplate_text> <media>
61027
      </media> <hg_media>
          <nid>61027</nid> <type>image</type>
Sonic Generator

                      <image_name>sonic_generator.jpg</image_name> <image_path>/sites/default/files/images/sonic_generator_0.jpg</image_path> <image_full_path>http://www.tlwarc.hg.gatech.edu//sites/default/files/images/sonic_generator_0.jpg</image_full_path> <image_740>http://www.tlwarc.hg.gatech.edu/sites/default/files/styles/740xx_scale/public/sites/default/files/images/sonic_generator_0.jpg?itok=QMH69lKG</image_740> <image_mime>image/jpeg</image_mime> <image_alt>Sonic Generator</image_alt> <created>1449176308</created> <gmt_created>2015-12-03 20:58:28</gmt_created> <changed>1475894531</changed> <gmt_changed>2016-10-08 02:42:11</gmt_changed>
      </hg_media> <related> </related> <files> </files> <groups> <group id="1218">Digital Lounge - Entertainment and Music</group> </groups> <categories>
Digital Media and Entertainment

Music and Music Technology
      </categories> <news_terms> <term tid="143">Digital Media and Entertainment</term> <term tid="148">Music and Music Technology</term> </news_terms> <keywords> <keyword tid="1309">music technology</keyword> <keyword tid="166982">Sonic Generator</keyword> </keywords> <core_research_areas> </core_research_areas> <news_room_topics> </news_room_topics> <files></files> <related></related> <userdata> </userdata></node><node id="69282">
Georgia Tech's Sonic Generator to Perform in Atlanta Premiere of Maa
  <uid>27213</uid>

On September 9 and 10 at8 pm, Georgia Tech’s contemporary music ensemble Sonic Generator will performin the Atlanta premiere of Maá—anevening-length performance at Atlanta Symphony Hall.

In this first-of-its-kindcollaboration among Sonic Generator, contemporary dance troupe gloATL andAtlanta Symphony Orchestra Maestro Robert Spano, the audience will be immersedinto a panoramic, grass-covered landscape with a 360-degree experience ofmusic, dance and theatrical design.
