Keaton has engineered 10 albums for hip-hop superstar Jay-Z.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThe announcement was made in Atlanta at the eighth annual A3C Festival, the largest hip-hop festival in the Southeast.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u201cYoung Guru brings a new level of creativity and professional musical expertise to EarSketch,\u201d said Brian Magerko, an assistant professor in the \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.iac.gatech.edu\/\u0022\u003EIvan Allen College\u003C\/a\u003E School of Literature, Media and Communication. \u201cAtlanta high school students will have a chance to learn about computer science with help from one of the biggest producers in hip-hop.\u201d\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u201cI knew early in my career that giving back and teaching young people were my passions,\u201d said Keaton. \u201cI wouldn\u2019t be here if it wasn\u2019t for professionals taking me under their wing and teaching me the craft. EarSketch is the program that will spark the next great computer or music mind. I\u2019m sure of it. This is why I wanted to be involved.\u201d\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EEarSketch is a National Science Foundation-funded initiative that was created to encourage high school students to consider computer science careers. The program, now in its second year, is focused on minorities and girls, but with an approach that is intended to have broad appeal. EarSketch utilizes the Python programming language and Cockos\u2019 Reaper, a digital audio workstation program similar to those used in recording studios throughout the music industry.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EEarSketch was developed and is overseen by Magerko and Jason Freeman, an associate professor in the \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.coa.gatech.edu\/\u0022\u003ECollege of Architecture\u2019s\u003C\/a\u003E School of Music.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u201cYoung people don\u2019t always realize that computer science and programming can be fun,\u201d said Freeman. \u201cStudents are using EarSketch to remix samples and loops to express their own creative musical ideas as they learn computer science principles.\u201d\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EEarSketch had its first \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?feature=player_embedded\u0026amp;v=0dRQxIhEo6Q\u0022\u003Etest run\u003C\/a\u003E by Atlanta-area high schoolers during a Georgia Tech summer camp in July.
