{"179541":{"#nid":"179541","#data":{"type":"event","title":"Bioengineering Seminar Series","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003E\u0022There and back again: from the physical to the molecular basis of morphogenesis\u0022\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003ELance Davidson, PhD\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003E\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EAssociate\u0026nbsp; Professor\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EUniversity of P\u003Cstrong\u003Eittsburgh\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003ELance Davidson is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Bioengineering at the University of Pittsburgh.\u0026nbsp; Prior to this he was a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Biology at the University of Virginia.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EDavidson got his BS in Physics at the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana.\u0026nbsp; He then earned his MSc in Experimental Space Science from York University in Toronto.\u0026nbsp; From there he moved to the University of California at Berkeley, where he earned his PhD in Biophysics.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EDavidson\u2019s research focuses on integrating the biomechanics of morphogenesis across a number of size scales from subcellular generation of forces to the macroscopic forces and bulk tissue properties that guide development of the developing embryo.\u0026nbsp; His lab also studies microscopy and image analysis techniques, including fluorescent RNA in situ, FRET, and high resolution timelapse confocal imaging of live cells in tissues.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EDavidson is the recipient of the National Science Foundation Career Award (2009), which recognizes the early career-development activities of those who are most likely to become the academic leaders of the 21st century.\u0026nbsp; He also attained the American Heart Association Beginning Grant-in-Aid (2008).\u0026nbsp; He is a member of the American Society for Cell Biology, the Society of Developmental Biology, and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers \u2013 Bioengineering.\u0026nbsp; He serves as an ad hoc peer reviewer for several professional journals, such as Nature Cell Biology, Journal of Biomechanical Engineering, and Journal of Cell Science, amongst others.\u003Cstrong\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E","summary":null,"format":"limited_html"}],"field_subtitle":"","field_summary":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EThe Bioengineering Seminar Series is a joint seminar series between IBB and the BME department.
