The concert showcases innovative contemporary music by some of the world\u2019s leading young composers.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThe concert features music by \u003Cstrong\u003EMichael van der Aa\u003C\/strong\u003E, the winner of the 2012 Grawemeyer Award \u2013 one of the world\u2019s most prestigious composition prizes.\u0026nbsp; In van der Aa\u2019s \u003Cstrong\u003EOog\u003C\/strong\u003E, for cello and tape, pre-recorded cello sounds are transfigured to create an exciting dialogue with live cello.\u0026nbsp; \u003Cstrong\u003ENathan Davis\u003C\/strong\u003E\u2019 \u003Cstrong\u003EDiving Bell\u003C\/strong\u003E, for solo triangle, uses this same idea of re-sculpting an instrument\u2019s timbral possibilities, but in this case with live processing, to produce a beautiful meditation on a single sound.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EAlso featured on the program is music by \u003Cstrong\u003EMario Diaz de Leon\u003C\/strong\u003E.\u0026nbsp; \u003Cstrong\u003EMansion\u003C\/strong\u003E, for two alto flutes, percussion and electronics, and \u003Cstrong\u003EGated Eclipse\u003C\/strong\u003E, for amplified sextet and electronics, are both mesmerizing examples of this talented young composer\u2019s hypnotic and ritualistic style that focuses on acoustic\/electronic hybrids.\u0026nbsp; Finally, \u003Cstrong\u003EDaniel Wohl\u003C\/strong\u003E\u2019s \u003Cstrong\u003EAORTA\u003C\/strong\u003E, for solo piano and tape, explores an electronic sound world produced exclusively through distorted piano sounds.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003ESonic Generator\u003C\/strong\u003E, Georgia Tech\u2019s contemporary chamber music ensemble-in-residence, explores the ways in which technology can transform how we create, perform and listen to music. The ensemble, comprised of some of the top classical musicians in Atlanta, works closely with Georgia Tech students and faculty in the School of Music and elsewhere on campus to present concerts that bring cutting-edge technologies to the world of contemporary classical music.
