{"186271":{"#nid":"186271","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Peterson Leads Discussion at World Economic Forum in Davos","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EGeorgia Institute of Technology is once again among global leaders in business, government and academia discussing how to improve the state of the world.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EGeorgia Tech President \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.gatech.edu\/president\/about\u0022\u003EG.P. \u201cBud\u201d Peterson\u003C\/a\u003E is one of a select number of university presidents attending the World Economic Forum Jan. 23-27 in Davos Klosters, Switzerland.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EAt a dinner on Jan. 23, Peterson and several other thought leaders from around the world discussed the topic, \u201cThe Disruptive University: How are new models of collaboration with universities spurring innovation?\u201d\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EPeterson and the group considered what prompts research universities to collaborate with each other, business and industry, as well as what universities can do to encourage innovation and spur the economy. They also examined how universities are \u201creinventing\u201d themselves to be responsive to society\u2019s needs and to address today\u2019s biggest challenges.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EPeterson also served as a \u0022rapporteur\u0022 for the \u0022From Data Deluge to Data Dividend\u0022 session and posted a\u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.weforum.org\/sessions\/summary\/data-deluge-data-dividend\u0022\u003E blog\u003C\/a\u003E on the World Economic Forum website providing insights on the discussion.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EIn addition to Peterson,\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.scs.gatech.edu\/people\/mustaque-ahamad\u0022\u003EMustaque Ahamad\u003C\/a\u003E, professor in the School of Computer Science and cybersecurity expert, will be part of a panel on Jan. 26 focused on cyber risk, which will be\u0026nbsp;moderated by Reuters. Ahamad will be speaking about a joint initiative between the Georgia Tech Information Security Center and the Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) to develop facts-based, real-time security threat monitoring for industry partners. Ahamad\u0027s presence at Davos is also related to Georgia Tech\u0027s involvement with the World Economic Forum to create a global cyber risk barometer.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/ipat.gatech.edu\/people\/renu-kulkarni\u0022\u003ERenu Kulkarni\u003C\/a\u003E,\u0026nbsp;founder and executive director of FutureMedia@GT and strategic partners officer at the Institute for People and Technology and the GTRI,\u0026nbsp;will also speak on\u0026nbsp;Jan. 25\u0026nbsp;about the\u0026nbsp;Digital Media Governance\u0026nbsp;project and facilitate a workshop to consider the future role of Intellectual Property in this domain. On\u0026nbsp;Jan. 23, Kulkarni participated in \u0022The Next 1 Billion Seconds\u0022 session that explored\u0026nbsp;opportunities and challenges to the consumption, governance and impact of
