188621 news 1359643764 1475896413 <![CDATA[College of Architecture Students Participate in NAHB Student Competition and Building Construction Student Wins Award]]> A team of Building Construction and Architecture students coached by Professor Rick Porter and Dr. Javier Irizarry participated in the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) Residential Construction Management student competition January 22-24, 2013 in Las Vegas, Nevada.  The NAHB Student Chapters Residential Construction Management Competition (RCMC) is one of the highlights of the annual International Builders' Show. The competition gives students the opportunity to apply skills learned in the classroom to a real construction company by completing a management project/proposal. Proposals are submitted to a group of construction company executives who act as judges. During the convention, students defend their proposals to the judges in front of an audience. Representing Georgia Tech at the competition were School of Building Construction students Saba Diba, Jeffrey Miller, Briana Holcomb, Stephanie Azahar, and School of Architecture student Olivia King.

 

Senior Building Construction major Jeffrey Miller was recognized at the NAHB Student Chapter Award Ceremony & 2013 HELP Grant Award Ceremony as the 2013 Outstanding Student. This award recognizes one student each year for his academic standing, involvement with NAHB Student Chapters and local Home Builders Association, and his interest in pursuing a career involved with the residential building industry.  Jeffrey is the vice president of the Georgia Tech Student Construction Association, is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, and is Corporal in the US Army Reserves.
