But a new annual festival aims to change that.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EOn April 12 and 13, the Institute hosted the TechArts Festival, a two-day event that showcased the creative spirit at Tech through student and faculty projects.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThe festival was coordinated by the Office of the Arts at Georgia Tech in conjunction with the Georgia Tech Council of the Arts, which were both created in response to the Institute\u2019s strategic plan priorities.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u201cThe idea for the festival came out of the TechArts task force, which formed a couple of years ago to explore the role of the arts on campus, as outlined in the strategic plan,\u201d said Aaron Bobick, chair of the Council of the Arts. \u201cThis festival is a way to bring greater visibility to the arts activities at Georgia Tech and to strengthen the culture of the arts at Tech.\u201d\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EEvents were free and open to the public and included works that showcased the convergence of art and technology and works that were solely artistic in nature. Highlights of the festival included:\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cul\u003E\u003Cli\u003EThe Margaret Guthman Musical Instrument Competition;\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003EAutomaton: A contemporary dance project featuring a dancing robot and live local dancers;\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003EA student poetry reading\u0026nbsp;featuring student work;\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003EJapan, Age and Gender:\u0026nbsp;A photography exhibition by Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education Colin Potts;\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003EPublic Power: An exhibition by graduate architecture students featuring the design and construction of a public performance space on the Atlanta Beltline; and\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003EA Georgia Tech Jazz Ensemble performance with guest artists Dimitri Vassilakis on saxophone and Dan Wall on piano.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003C\/ul\u003E\u003Cp\u003EFor a detailed schedule, visit \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.arts.gatech.edu\u0022\u003Ewww.arts.gatech.edu\u003C\/a\u003E.\u003C\/p\u003E","summary":null,"format":"limited_html"}],"field_subtitle":"","field_summary":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EFine arts isn\u2019t something that most people associate with Georgia Tech.
