{"208741":{"#nid":"208741","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Africa Atlanta 2014 Debuts at Georgia Tech African Film Festival","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EAfrica Atlanta 2014\u003C\/strong\u003E made its official debut on the occasion of the Georgia Institute of Technology African Film Series premiere on April 2, 2013, at the Historic Academy of Medicine.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThe event began with a reception at 6:00 p.m. and included a screening of the acclaimed film \u003Cem\u003ELife on Earth\u003C\/em\u003E (France, Mali, Mauritania, 1998) by Abderrahmane Sissako, with a special introduction by African Film Scholar, Aboubakar Sanogo of Carlton University in Ottawa, Canada. A discussion with Sanogo, \u003Cstrong\u003EJacqueline J. Royster\u003C\/strong\u003E, dean of the \u003Cstrong\u003EIvan Allen College of Liberal Arts\u003C\/strong\u003E, and \u003Cstrong\u003EAngela Dalle Vacche\u003C\/strong\u003E, professor in the \u003Cstrong\u003ESchool of Literature, Media, and Communication \u003C\/strong\u003Eat Georgia Tech immediately followed the film.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EModeled on the highly successful France-Atlanta Initiative, Africa Atlanta 2014 is a citywide, year-long celebration of cultural and economic bonds among African, European, and American cultures in Atlanta. It has been organized by the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts at the Georgia Institute of Technology in collaboration with the Consulate General of Belgium in Atlanta. This initiative, designed as a robust cross-cultural interdisciplinary collaboration of multiple stakeholders across the City of Atlanta, is anchored by the art exhibition, \u003Cem\u003EKONGO across the WATERS\u003C\/em\u003E, which is co-curated by the Royal Museum of Central Africa in Tervuren, Belgium, and the Samuel P. Harn Museum of Art at the University of Florida.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThe exhibition will be at the Jimmy Carter Library and Museum from May until September 2014.
