{"217061":{"#nid":"217061","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Tech Kicks Off Operations Planning Initiative","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EIf a weather disaster or other emergency forces Georgia Tech to shut down, it will be crucial to have plans in place to help normal campus operations resume.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThat\u2019s why the Institute has implemented a continuity of operations planning (COOP) initiative to ensure that Tech\u2019s units are prepared to meet this challenge head-on. \u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u201cIt\u2019s important for us to develop continuity of operations plans at the departmental level on up to the Institute level,\u201d said Andy Altizer, director of emergency preparedness. \u201cWithout these key pieces of information, Georgia Tech will be lost following an emergency or disaster.\u201d \u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003ETo get the ball rolling, the Office of Emergency Preparedness is offering COOP training throughout the summer. The course will provide personnel with a template for building their own departmental plans. \u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EParticipants will learn how to conduct a hazard analysis, and identify and prioritize departmental critical functions. \u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThey will also learn how to use GT Ready, a business continuity planning tool that is specific to \u003Cbr \/\u003Ethe Institute and increases Tech\u2019s ability to keep operating following disruptive events.
