Three in LMC Participate in Fire Grant

Brittain Fellows Dr. Leah Haught and Dr. Jonathan Kotchian will join Richard Utz, LMC Chair, and an interdisciplinary group of Tech faculty funded by the Provost's new GT Fire Mini Grant Program titled "Small Funding Requests for Big Ideas."

The project, "Past Present: Resonances of Medieval and Early Modern Culture in Atlanta" unites people around campus who are interested in medieval and early modern culture for discussions of various recreations, resonances, reenactments, representations, and receptions of the medieval and early modern past in a modern city. It follows up on the "Tech Gets Medieval Symposium" organized in fall 2012 and will use Atlanta as a lab space within which to observe the survival and recreation of past cultural practices and ideas. Discussions may include architecture (Rhodes Hall, cathedrals, and churches), organizations (Knights of Columbus, KKK, ATL Early Music Alliance), events (DragonCon and RenFest), enterprises (Medieval Times), institutions (universities and churches), and the presence of the medieval and early modern in popular culture (gaming and popular culture).
