And as budgets have tightened over the years, it\u2019s become increasingly important to make wise choices.\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp; \u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThat\u2019s why the Strategic Technology Investment Committee (\u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/epmo.gatech.edu\/stic\u0022 title=\u0022http:\/\/epmo.gatech.edu\/stic\u0022\u003Ehttp:\/\/epmo.gatech.edu\/stic\u003C\/a\u003E) has been tasked with creating an \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/itmasterplan.gatech.edu\u0022\u003EInstitute Information Technology (IT) Master Plan\u003C\/a\u003E.\u0026nbsp; \u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u201cTo the best of my knowledge, this is the first time since the Olympics that we\u2019ve created a campuswide IT Master Plan,\u201d said Jim O\u2019Connor, vice president of the Office of Information Technology (OIT). \u201cIn the past, we\u2019ve had unit-level IT plans that support the Institute\u2019s strategic goals, but our Strategic Technology Investment Committee recognizes the value of an Institute-wide approach to leveraging our IT investments.\u201d\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003ETown halls \u2014 open to anyone interested in attending one of the three sessions \u2014 will be held this Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday to introduce the project to campus and generate discussion. Attendees will hear about the project\u2019s goals and objectives and how they can participate in the process.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u201cWe are looking for input from the campus community to help us understand how technology is impacting the campus and how future technologies will support Tech\u2019s mission,\u201d said Robert Gerhart, IT manager for the College of Architecture and project leader for the master plan.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThe plan is meant to address IT needs up to five years from now and aims to answer questions such as:\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cul\u003E\u003Cli\u003EHow do we align IT services and operations with the business, \u2028academic, and research needs of Tech\u2019s community?\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003EHow do we manage technological change in a way that capitalizes on opportunity, mitigates risk, and adds value to the community in a manner that is planned, efficient, and quantifiable?\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003EHow do we create an infrastructure and a support structure that rapidly and effectively adapts to \u2028evolving technologies and their uses?\u003C\/li\u003E\u003C\/ul\u003E\u003Cp\u003EIn addition to the town halls, the committee is interviewing faculty, staff, and students to get input and will conduct a campuswide survey in the fall.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u201cThe town halls, interviews, and the survey are unique opportunities to offer your thoughts on how the IT community can help support your unit\u2019s strategic goals,\u201d O\u2019Connor said. \u201cYou can help us understand what investments and services help you contribute to making Georgia Tech the \u2018technological university of the 21st century.\u2019\u201d\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EFor more information, contact \u003Ca href=\u0022mailto:rgerhart@gatech.edu\u0022\u003EGerhart\u003C\/a\u003E.\u003C\/p\u003E","summary":null,"format":"limited_html"}],"field_subtitle":"","field_summary":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003ETown halls \u2014 open to anyone interested in attending one of the three sessions \u2014 will be held this Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday to introduce the project to campus and generate discussion.
