(However, the advice would work for members of both sexes.)\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EDuring the presentation, David Edmisten, financial solutions advisor at Merrill Edge, offered the following investing strategies.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cul\u003E\u003Cli\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EKnow your tolerance.\u003C\/strong\u003E Be real with yourself about your financial and emotional tolerance for risk. For example, if you are retiring in a few years, you will probably feel more comfortable with less risky investments such as bonds and cash.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003ERoll over 401(k)s from previous jobs.\u003C\/strong\u003E Companies go out of business and something could happen to your money. Put it in an individual retirement account (IRA) that you have control over.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EParticipate in a spousal IRA.\u003C\/strong\u003E If you are married to someone who isn\u2019t in the workforce, encourage him or her to participate in a spousal IRA.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EKeep your investments diversified.\u003C\/strong\u003E This protects you if, for example, the stock market crashes.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003ERevisit your investments regularly.\u003C\/strong\u003E Redistribute the amount you have invested in stocks, bonds, etc. based on where you are in your savings goal timeline.\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EMake sure your beneficiary information is accurate.\u003C\/strong\u003E Whenever you have children or get married or divorced, be sure to update this information to ensure that any money goes to the right people.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EFind a qualified financial planner.\u003C\/strong\u003E Ask your friends for suggestions. Interview a few people and then make a choice. This person is going to handle your money, so don\u2019t make a snap decision. Also, don\u2019t commit to more than a year with this planner.
