245121 external_news 1381770682 1475893603 While a proposed license fee for bicycles and other related laws appears to be dead in the Florida legislature, the growing number of cyclist around the country has led some commentators to believe similar legislation make crop up in other states. Michael Elliott, an associate professor at Georgia Tech's School of City and Regional Planning, doesn't believe that the state laws proposed in Florida are helpful for improving safety and the way that cyclists and motorists interact with each other. "One of strongest statistics about the safety of bicycle riders is that the more you have, the safer they are," said Elliott.  He holds that even though bicycle investments may not necessarily keep up with the increase in bicycle ridership, much of the tension between cyclists and motorists can be reduced through education and increased familiarity.
