The South Carolina chapter of the American Planning Association (APA) hosted the student-led conference during their \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/hg.gatech.edu\/sites\/default\/files\/phillips_combating_americas_food_deserts.pdf\u0022\u003ESCAPA Fall 2013 Conference\u003C\/a\u003E, with student breakout sessions running concurrently with the SCAPA speakers and training workshops. Roughly 30 students within the 160 registrants for the SCAPA conference exchanged research and best practices particular to the southeast region through sessions titled \u0022Investigations into Transit,\u0022 \u0022Social Equity Challenges in the 21st Century,\u0022 \u0022Preserving, Revitalizing, and Modernizing,\u0022 and \u0022Urban Art - The City as a Canvas,\u0022 in addition to a student walking tour of downtown Spartanburg.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003ECarly Queen, a graduate planning student at Georgia Tech and co-organizer of the student conference, observed that the two conferences were well integrated: \u0022The student conference operated as a separate track within the SCAPA conference allowing conference participants the ability to jump between SCAPA sessions and student-led sessions.\u0022 Queen also noted that the\u0026nbsp;Southeast Planning Students Conference\u0027s silent auction benefitted from the additional conference participants. \u0022Books and signed baseballs were auctioned to raise money for each APA chapters. The Georgia Tech items raised $70 for student travel.\u0022\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EPerhaps the greatest benefit of the conference came from the opportunity for students to network with professionals and to receive feedback on their papers. Georgia Tech was represented by graduate planning students Taylor Tyger, Tharunya Balan, and \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/hg.gatech.edu\/sites\/default\/files\/phillips_combating_americas_food_deserts.pdf\u0022\u003EMarion Phillips\u003C\/a\u003E in the breakout student sessions.
