Understanding the relationship between TEs, chromatin structure and gene expression dynamics.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EComputational Genomics for Public Health - the development and application of computational tools for the analysis of microbial genome sequences. Creation of web-enabled programs for molecular epidemiology and comparative genomics.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EOur bioinformatics research efforts sometimes entail algorithm development for functional genomic applications based on next-generation sequence data, e.g. genome assembly, ChIP-seq, RNA-seq. Jordan also works on the development of local bioinformatics capacity in Latin American countries, Colombia in particular. He is the co-founder of the PanAmerican Bioinformatics Institute (PABI), a network of academics and researchers in Colombia and the United States. Faculty are often asked to speak at other universities and conferences, but rarely present at their home institution, this seminar series is an attempt to close that gap.
