253751 event 1384189914 1492118633 <![CDATA[The Kenyan Running Phenomenon]]> Since the 1960 Rome Olympics, runners from East Africa, especially Kenya and Ethiopia have enjoyed unparalleled success and long dominance in distance running events ranging from the 800 meters to the marathon.  As to whether this athletic prowess can be maintained in the face of the current physical activity transition is yet to be seen. 

The objective of this lecture are:

- To describe the emerging physical activity transition that is threatening the sporting excellence in East Africa;

- To introduce the KIDS-CAN Research Alliance and Healthy Active Kids Kenya;

- To recommend possible ways of promoting physical activity for sporting excellence in East Africa; and 

- To introduce the Healthy Active Kids Kenya Report Card as an effective initiative for research synthesis, identification of research gaps, and advocacy for the promotion of physical activity and the maintenace of sporting excellence.
