My students, Bruce Gunter and I are eager to share with you what we’ve come up with. We will present ideas, analyses, questions, and suggestions for this complex, changing, and very important part of the core city. Most among the stakeholders are acknowledging that the investment of the City, GWCCA, and the Falcons needs to benefit all impacted by that investment, with the goal of having a community-guided transformational outcome. How that shared transformational vision can move toward reality is yet to be determined, even as the time to get beyond words is now. We hope that this work will assist in determining priorities and timelines for actions that can fulfill commitments and build a basis for trust between the Falcons, the City, and the Vine City, English Avenue, Castleberry Hill, and Downtown neighborhoods.

Our work synthesizes the issues that we shared with many of you at our last meeting on October 30. The presentation will focus on ten program and project topics that involve persistent connectivity issues, like environmental and green space frameworks, east-west transportation options, civil rights legacy, and the provision of community services, to name a few. Sub group discussions will break into four topic sections including Housing and Community Development, Transportation, Quality of Life, Environment and Health.

This will be the last formal presentation of our four month effort, yet we intend to incorporate feedback from this meeting into our final report. Altogether, our work represents what we have learned from participation in several meetings, both large and small, with a wide range of individuals and groups. Further, we have incorporated work from the many studies that have gone before. And we have studied what people do in other places in dealing with comparable issues and opportunities. We have tried to group our findings in ways that make sense and that facilitate your guidance and feedback.

We hope you’ll be able to join us.
