{"262221":{"#nid":"262221","#data":{"type":"event","title":"Women\u0027s Awareness Special Event - Women in the Middle East and South Asia","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003E\u0022Women in the Middle East and South Asia,\u0022 a Women\u0027s Awareness Month panel bringing together Laura Bier, Moon Charania, and Deepika Bahri, scholars whose research focuses on these regions. \u0026nbsp;\u003Cem\u003EA reception will precede the panel.\u003C\/em\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003ELaura Bier\u003C\/strong\u003E is currently Associate Professor in the School of History, Technology and Society at Georgia Tech. \u0026nbsp;She is a social and cultural historian with a specialty in post-colonial Egyptian history. \u0026nbsp;She has been the recipient of a number of grants, including a Fulbright and a Fulbright-Hays for her research on gender and state socialism in Egypt. \u0026nbsp;Her work has appeared in the journals Feminist Studies and Gender and History and in edited collections on the family in the Middle East and on the Bandung Conference. \u0026nbsp;Her book Revolutionary Womanhood: Feminisms, Modernity and the State in Nasser\u0027s Egypt was published by Stanford University Press in 2011.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EMoon Charania\u003C\/strong\u003E is currently a Visiting Lecturer in Sociology at Georgia State University. \u0026nbsp;She comes to Georgia State following a two year Postdoctoral Fellowship at Tulane University in the Gender and Sexuality Studies program. \u0026nbsp;Her current and previous scholarship cuts across disciplines and includes sociology, cultural studies, women\u0027s studies, and transnational studies. \u0026nbsp;She would like to speak about Pakistani women and global visual culture.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EDeepika Bahri\u003C\/strong\u003E is Associate Professor in the English department at Emory University. \u0026nbsp;Her research focuses on postcolonial literature, culture, and theory. \u0026nbsp;She is the author of Native Intelligence: Aesthetics, Politics, and Postcolonial Literature (University of Minnesota Press, 2003) and co-editor of Between the Lines: South Asians and Postcoloniality and Realms of Rhetoric.
