{"269641":{"#nid":"269641","#data":{"type":"news","title":"BOR Discusses Tobacco-Free Policy","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EDuring its January meeting, the Board of Regents (BOR) began discussions regarding a proposed tobacco and smoke-free campus policy for all University System of Georgia institutions.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThe BOR may vote on the policy, which would go into effect on July 1, at its next meeting on Feb. 11-12.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EIn other meeting news: \u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cul\u003E\u003Cli\u003EThe Georgia Research Alliance Eminent Scholar and Joseph M. Petit Chair in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering were established.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003EThe Charles W. Brady Chair in the Scheller College of Business was established.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003EThe David Sloan Lewis Professorship in the School of Aerospace Engineering was established. The BOR approved Wassim Haddad\u2019s appointment to this position.\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003EBerdinus Bras was appointed to the Brook Byers Professorship in the School of Mechanical Engineering.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003EMarilyn Brown was appointed to the Brook Byers Professorship in the School of Public Policy.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003EElsa Reichmanis was appointed to the Brook Byers Professorship in the School of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003EHonorary Tech degrees for Muhtar Kent and Sue Van were approved.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003EBNIM Architects and LP3 were selected to be the professional design firms for the Price Gilbert-Crosland Tower project.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003EA resolution opposing a boycott of Israeli academic institutions was adopted.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003EAs part of the state\u2019s Guaranteed Energy Savings Performance Contract Program, the BOR identified a $5.66 million project to improve energy efficiency of Tech\u2019s central cooling plants.
