Born in London in 1978 to Iranian parents,\u0026nbsp;Zarghamee grew up in Boston. He is the author of \u003Cem\u003E\u0026nbsp;\u0022Discovering Cyrus: The Persian Conqueror Astride the Ancient World.\u0022\u003C\/em\u003E\u0026nbsp; His immersion in the ancient history of Iran started\u0026nbsp;early: At the age of thirteen, he began studying Old Persian cuneiform at the urging\u0026nbsp;of Professor Richard Frye, a founder of the Center for Middle Eastern Studies at\u0026nbsp;Harvard University. Later, he took courses in Zoroastrianism and Manichaenism\u0026nbsp;taught by another eminent Harvard scholar, Prods Oktor Skj\u00e6rv\u00f8.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EZarghamee attended\u0026nbsp;Columbia University, pursuing a double-major in history and biology, studying\u0026nbsp;Persian language and literature, and graduating with honors in 2000. Three years\u0026nbsp;later, he received a J.D. degree from Harvard Law School, where his writings\u0026nbsp;included a comparison of ancient Near Eastern legal systems. Since then, he has\u0026nbsp;practiced law at the firm of Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP while continuing\u0026nbsp;his scholarly investigations of the era of Cyrus. His extensive travels in the Middle\u0026nbsp;East have taken him across much of the empire founded by that giant of history\u0026nbsp;twenty-six centuries ago.
