{"275091":{"#nid":"275091","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Make-Up Classes Not Required Following \u2018SnowJam\u2019 Closures","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EThe two-and-a-half day campus closure at the end of January caused numerous activities to be canceled or rescheduled, including classes.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EIn response to the weather-related closure, the vice provosts for undergraduate and graduate education have jointly requested that faculty exercise some latitude with respect to assignment deadlines.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EVice Provost for Undergraduate Education Colin Potts and Vice Provost for Graduate Education and Faculty Affairs Susan Cozzens cited University System of Georgia policies, reminding faculty that mandatory make-up classes are determined by the registrar, and that students are not required to attend any ad hoc make-up classes. Because Tech\u2019s current semesters are in excess of the System\u2019s requirements, they said, mandatory make-up classes will only be considered if additional campus closures are necessary.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u201cWe are fortunate that we are sufficiently early in the semester that with slight reorganization most course syllabi could absorb short delays,\u201d they wrote, adding, \u201ca little flexibility will go a long way.\u201d\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EIn addition to class cancelations, the annual Internship and Co-Op Fair was shortened by a day. The second day has been rescheduled for \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.calendar.gatech.edu\/event\/273991\u0022\u003EWednesday, Feb. 19\u003C\/a\u003E, in the Student Center Ballroom.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThe Jan. 28 Stamps Health Services Flu Clinic was also cut short, but will not be rescheduled. Students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/health.gatech.edu\/services\/immunizations\/Pages\/FluVaccinationsforFallSpringSemesters.aspx\u0022\u003Emake appointments with the immunization clinic\u003C\/a\u003E to receive flu shots.
