This type of network that includes a number of overlapping base stations, each with its unique characteristics including transmission power, backhaul technology is termed as a heterogeneous network (HetNet). The emergence of the HetNet paradigm leads to several research challenges and calls for a profound rethinking of several existing approaches for mobility management and self organization functions among other issues. In the first part of the talk, novel traffic-aware admission control and scheduling algorithms for hybrid-access small cells will be discussed. Following this, handover performance modeling and a local anchor based handover scheme for small cells will be covered.

Speaker Bio:
Ravikumar Balakrishnan received his undergraduate degree in ECE from Anna University, India and his masters degree in ECE from Georgia Tech.
