Students Honor Teachers Who “Make a Difference”

Do you value good teaching? Is there someone at Georgia Tech who has been particularly inspirational or helpful to your student? Last year Georgia Tech students used the Thank a Teacher website to send 1,135 notes to faculty, teaching assistants, advisors and staff members who have gone the “extra mile.”

Thank a Teacher is an online service designed to give students an easy way to show appreciation to those who are making a difference in their education at Georgia Tech. It’s a simple idea: students send a thank-you note to someone who helps them learn—and in doing so, they let Georgia Tech know that students value good teaching.

The Center for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning (CETL) partners with the Student Government Association (SGA) to make this program a success. SGA members encourage their fellow students to go to www.thankateacher.gatech.edu and send a note. CETL then prints the note and sends it to the appropriate person with a certificate and letter explaining that a student has written a note on their behalf.

Recipients of the notes are invited to attend the annual Dean Griffin Day Luncheon, a gala event hosted by SGA. The event is named after Dean George C. Griffin, a cherished member of the Georgia Tech community. First as a student, then as a coach, a mathematics professor, a Dean, and an Alumni Club organizer, George Griffin left a lasting impression on the Georgia Tech community during his 50 years on campus. The luncheon for Thank-a-Teacher recipients honors those who share Dean Griffin’s passion for teaching by recognizing those who are currently having a positive impact on the lives of Georgia Tech students.

This year’s Dean Griffin Day Luncheon will be held on April 15. Please encourage your student to honor someone who is making a difference in their education at Georgia Tech. Saying thanks helps faculty, TAs, and staff know that excellence in education matters to Georgia Tech’s student body. Thank a teacher today!
