{"287781":{"#nid":"287781","#data":{"type":"event","title":"Negotiations and Problem Solving Workshops for Women","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EDESCRIPTION OF WORKSHOP Basic Negotiations, Problem Solving and Conflict Resolution Course Description (Half Day); Facilitators: Barbara Butterfield and Jane Tucker\u003Cbr \/\u003EThis seminar is designed to build understanding of mutual interest based negotiations or solution finding.\u0026nbsp; The content encourages: \u2022\u003C\/p\u003E\u0026nbsp;\u003Cp\u003Edeveloping understanding of the parties\u2019 interests; \u2022\u003C\/p\u003E\u0026nbsp;\u003Cp\u003Eclearly asking for what you want; \u2022\u003C\/p\u003E\u0026nbsp;\u003Cp\u003Edeveloping alternatives that enhance the possibility of reaching agreement; \u2022\u003C\/p\u003E\u0026nbsp;\u003Cp\u003Epackaging of the possibilities, and \u2022\u003C\/p\u003E\u0026nbsp;\u003Cp\u003Eintroducing the concepts of anchoring and a zone of possible agreement. .\u0026nbsp; Sometimes, no matter how hard one tries, an agreement is not achieved.\u0026nbsp; In this case, participants will learn to develop and consider using a BATNA or the \u201cbest alternative to a negotiated agreement\u201d before they start to negotiate.\u003Cbr \/\u003EParticipants will evaluate their personal conflict resolution styles.\u0026nbsp; Case studies will reinforce the use of effective styles in negotiating and problem-solving.\u0026nbsp; Case practice includes various topics, such as a competitive job offer, committee service, salary increase and research resources.\u0026nbsp; These cases help define patterns of negotiations when choice and stress are factors.\u0026nbsp; Development of supporting data, options and packaging solutions are examined relative to these cases.\u0026nbsp; \u003Cbr \/\u003EParticipants are introduced to a negotiations planning work sheet to be used in preparation for negotiations.\u0026nbsp; If time permits, attendees practice their own cases and receive coaching feedback.\u0026nbsp; Several methods of responding to difficult tactics are demonstrated and discussed.\u003Cbr \/\u003EThis workshop is sponsored by the Center for the Study of Women, Science, and Technology, Office of Institute Diversity (Co-Directors: Carol Colatrella, Mary Frank Fox, Mary Lynn Realff).
