The team, which includes graduate students\u003Cstrong\u003E\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/strong\u003EMarcelo Sandoval (electrical and computer engineering), Jennifer Howard (electrical and computer engineering),\u0026nbsp;Mitch Costley (electrical and computer engineering), and\u0026nbsp;Eric Crane (business administration),\u0026nbsp;now moves on to represent the southeast region in the\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/techportal.eere.energy.gov\/commercialization\/initiatives\/national_clean_energy_business_plan_competition\/\u0022 rel=\u0022nofollow\u0022 target=\u0022_blank\u0022\u003EDOE National Clean Energy Business Plan Finals\u003C\/a\u003E, to be held in\u0026nbsp;Washington, D.C., in June.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThe students developed a new electric power grid approach and solution with a decentralized, autonomous, Internet-like control architecture and a learning control software system. The proposed architecture leverages smart grid investment in sensing and communications and is massively scalable and incrementally deployable, enabling grid flexibility and numerous desirable value propositions, according to the\u0026nbsp;Georgia Tech\u0026nbsp;team. The new architecture is based on the emerging concept of electricity \u0022Prosumers,\u0022 i.e., economically motivated parties (residential, commercial, industrial and institutional) that can produce, consume or store electricity as determined by their unique needs and capabilities.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThe\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.accnrg.org\/\u0022 rel=\u0022nofollow\u0022 target=\u0022_blank\u0022\u003E$100K ACC Clean Energy Challenge\u003C\/a\u003E\u0026nbsp;is a business plan competition encouraging students from throughout the southeast\u0026nbsp;to develop plans for new companies focused on renewable energy, energy efficiency improvements, and advanced fuels or vehicles.
