Brittain Fellow Dr. Amanda Golden\u2019s English 1102 \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.agoldenphd.com\/uploads\/1\/7\/4\/5\/17456133\/digital_woolf_syllabus2013.pdf\u0022\u003E\u201cDigital Woolf\u201d\u003C\/a\u003E course in Fall 2013 at Georgia Tech, Kaul submitted a proposal on his own for the conference, and it was accepted. \u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EDr. Golden\u2019s \u201cDigital Woolf\u201d course\u2014a version of English 1102 offered in the Writing and Communication Program\u2014addressed Virginia Woolf\u2019s fiction, essays, and excerpts from her journals alongside the literature and art of the Bloomsbury Group. The students completed a series of multimodal projects that included creating \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/techstyle.lmc.gatech.edu\/mapping-jacobs-room\/\u0022\u003Eannotated maps of Woolf\u2019s novel \u003Cem\u003EJacob\u2019s Room \u003C\/em\u003E(1922) \u003C\/a\u003Eand designing Woolf Apps (applications) to enable readers to better understand Woolf\u2019s difficult and opaque writing.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EDuring English 1102, Kaul took great interest in Woolf\u2019s response to the British Empire, particularly after reading Urmila Seshagiri\u2019s article \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/muse.jhu.edu\/login?auth=0\u0026amp;type=summary\u0026amp;url=\/journals\/modern_fiction_studies\/v050\/50.1seshagiri.html\u0022\u003E\u201cOrienting Virginia Woolf: Race, Aesthetics, and Politics in \u003Cem\u003ETo the Lighthouse.\u003C\/em\u003E\u201d\u003C\/a\u003E In his paper, Kaul makes a vital contribution to this critical conversation:\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u0022Virginia Woolf\u2019s writings function as a criticism of the socially contingent nature of gender, sexuality, and class divisions, and, to date, scholarship has focused on Woolf\u2019s writings as they relate to the evolution of Western attitudes towards said dichotomies over time.
