{"299241":{"#nid":"299241","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Parking and Transportation Rolls Out Bike Rental Program","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EComing on the heels \u2014\u0026nbsp;and wheels \u2014\u0026nbsp;of National Bike Month, Parking and Transportation Services (PTS) is rolling out a new bike rental program for students, called BuzzBike.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EBeginning Monday, June 2, students may apply to rent a bike for a semester at a time.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u0022We have students on campus who would love to get to class, run errands, and visit friends in a way that\u0027s quick, convenient, and low cost, and biking fits the bill perfectly,\u201d said Lance Lunsway, senior director of PTS. \u201cWith the infrastructure improvements we\u2019ve made over the past few years, along with our participation in the forthcoming Campus Bicycle Master Plan, we see a need for more options for biking on campus.\u0022\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EStudents can \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/1X_WPwXTQora8J6Qq3psmxxojYqiouE16q4YW8Yc1itU\/viewform?edit_requested=true\u0022\u003Eapply online\u003C\/a\u003E to rent one of 25 bikes on a first-come, first-served basis. Applicants will be notified via email if selected and placed on a wait list if not.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003ERenters are required to have helmets and bike locks. They may use their own or purchase them through BuzzBike. A signed waiver is also required to participate, and riders are expected to follow all traffic laws while using the bikes\u0026nbsp;\u2014 they\u2019ll receive a copy of the \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.dot.ga.gov\/travelingingeorgia\/bikepedestrian\/Documents\/English-fullversion.pdf\u0022\u003EGeorgia Bike Sense\u003C\/a\u003E guide with their rental.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EPTS has worked with the campus Bicycle Infrastructure Improvement Committee in recent years to add bike racks, sharrows and other infrastructure to make the campus more bike-friendly, helping Tech earn the designation of a Silver level \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.news.gatech.edu\/2012\/03\/28\/tech-honored-bicycle-friendly-university\u0022\u003EBicycle Friendly University\u003C\/a\u003E from the League of American Cyclists.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u201cWe\u2019ve definitely noticed increased interest in biking both in the Georgia Tech community and throughout the city, and we\u0027re excited to offer this program to our students,\u201d Lunsway said.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThe cost of rental is $35 for spring or fall semesters and $20 for summer, with a $50 deposit to be refunded upon the bike\u2019s return at the end of each semester.
