Architecture receives maximum reaccreditation from National Architectural Accreditation Board

The School of Architecture’s Master of Architecture program recently received re-accreditation from the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB) for the maximum allowable period of eight (8) years.

"Our continued accreditation from NAAB confirms that we continue meet the highest standards in architectural education,” said Richard Dagenhart, interim chair of the School. “It is a positive reflection on the quality of our students, faculty and staff, and signals that the School of Architecture maintains its long-held reputation for excellence.”

The Master’s in Architecture (M. Arch) program is the professional program in architecture leading to the NAAB-accredited Master of Architecture degree. This program accommodates both the M. Arch two-year program forthose students that hold a four-year, pre-professional degree in architecture, and the M. Arch three and a half-year program for those students without a pre-professional degree in architecture.

The accreditation process included an extensive Academic Program Report prepared by the School and a three-day site visit to Georgia Tech's campus in February 2014.

The National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB) is the sole agency authorized to accredit US professional degree programs in architecture. Since most state registration boards in the United States require any applicant for licensure to have graduated from a NAAB-accredited program, obtaining such a degree from an accredited program is an essential aspect of preparing for the professional practice of architecture. The curriculum of a NAAB-accredited program includes general studies, professional studies, and electives, which together comprise a liberal education in architecture. The curriculum ensures that graduates will be technically competent, critical thinkers who are capable of defining multiple career paths within a changing societal context.
