{"317381":{"#nid":"317381","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Georgia Tech\u0027s Deana Brown Earns Intel Ph.D Fellowship","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003E\u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.deanab.com\u0022\u003EDeana Brown\u003C\/a\u003E, a fourth-year Ph.D student at Georgia Tech\u2019s College of Computing, recently earned a prestigious \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.intel.com\/content\/www\/us\/en\/education\/university\/intel-2014-phd-fellowship-winners.html\u0022\u003EIntel Ph.D fellowship\u003C\/a\u003E. As one of only nine students in the United States selected, Brown receives a cash grant as well as access to Intel\u2019s expertise and guidance.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EIntel\u2019s PhD Fellowship program selects top students in engineering and computer science through a rigorous application process and recognizes some of the future leaders of technology and research. As part of the fellowship, Brown earns a Total Industry Experience (TIE) grant, which connects her with an Intel technical mentor and helps pay for expenses to visits to the Intel campus in Santa Clara, CA, or Intel-sponsored events.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EBrown\u2019s research focuses on human-computer interaction, specifically in the space of mobile, social and ubiquitous computing as it applies to family and educational communications. The fellowship will help support work toward her thesis titled: \u201cDesigning for Mediated Parent-Teacher\/Mentor Communication to Overcome Distance \u0026amp; Language Barrier.\u201d\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EBrown earned bachelor\u2019s degrees in computer science, mathematics and Spanish at Lawrence University in Appleton, WI and her master\u2019s in information technology from Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, NY. She has also studied at the University of Granada in Spain and served as an HCI research affiliate with the University of Cape Town in South Africa.
