It is meant to recognize a substantial, significant, and ongoing record of scholarly achievement that has earned high national esteem over a sustained period.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp class=\u0022p5\u0022\u003ETwo academic faculty members were named as Regents Professors:\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cul\u003E\u003Cli\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EMark Hay\u003C\/strong\u003E, professor in the School of Biology, and\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EDimitri Mavris\u003C\/strong\u003E, director of the Aerospace Systems Design Laboratory and professor in the School of Aerospace Engineering.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003C\/ul\u003E\u003Cp class=\u0022p5\u0022\u003E Two research faculty members were granted the title of Regents Researcher:\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cul\u003E\u003Cli\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EHelena Mitchell\u003C\/strong\u003E, executive director of the Center for Advanced Communications Policy and principal research scientist in the School of Public Policy, and\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003ELora Weiss\u003C\/strong\u003E, principal research engineer and chief scientist, Georgia Tech Research Institute.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003C\/ul\u003E\u003Cp class=\u0022p5\u0022\u003E\u201cThese individuals are among the finest scholars in the nation,\u201d said Provost Rafael L. Bras. \u201cThey represent preeminence in scholarship and research, which, in turn, has important implications for Georgia Tech and for the economic success of the state. Most importantly, it is our students who benefit from the experience of being taught, advised, and mentored by these outstanding faculty.\u201d\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp class=\u0022p5\u0022\u003ENominations are the result of a unanimous recommendation from the president, provost, executive vice president for research, a faculty committee, and college deans.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp class=\u0022p5\u0022\u003E\u201cThey have made tremendous contributions to the research, education, and economic development missions of Georgia Tech,\u201d added Executive Vice President for Research Stephen E.
