{"328471":{"#nid":"328471","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Cyber Security Workshops Help Promote Safe Computing","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp class=\u0022p1\u0022\u003EIn recognition of October being National Cyber Security Month, the Office of Information Technology\u2019s Cyber Security team is launching a workshop series to arm faculty and staff with safe computing habits.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp class=\u0022p5\u0022\u003EThe series begins Oct. 6 with \u201cHow Not to Get Caught in the Phishing Net.\u201d Attendees will learn how to spot a phishing attack and what to do if they think they\u2019ve been phished.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp class=\u0022p5\u0022\u003E\u201cThis is just as big a problem at home with people inadvertently giving bad guys their personal information, such as bank account numbers or Facebook account information, as it is on campus,\u201d said Jason Belford, interim associate director for Cyber Security. \u201cWhat we \u003Cbr \/\u003E discuss in this session will not only help here but can be applied at home to help keep users safe.\u201d\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp class=\u0022p5\u0022\u003EA Nov. 3 session will cover two-factor authentication, or 2FA. Many faculty and staff may be required to enter this type of authentication as Tech implements 2FA for software applications that may contain sensitive information. The Dec. 1 session on \u201cProtecting Your Best Interests on Social Media\u201d will be on implementing safe computing practices while using social media such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp class=\u0022p5\u0022\u003E\u201cThe value in attending these workshops is obtaining a better understanding of the cyber threats our campus faces and how people can protect themselves,\u201d said Jimmy Lummis, information security policy and compliance manager.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp class=\u0022p5\u0022\u003EAll sessions will take place from 1 \u2013 2 p.m. in the Peachtree Room of the Student Center.
