Enough is now known about how this is done to begin to use immunity for a variety of biomedical purposes. These include fighting diseases such as cancer that the immune system does not normally recognize, correcting mistakes in the immune response that cause autoimmune and inflammatory conditions, avoiding the immune system when we want to deliver or implant a foreign substance, and assessing immune response to report on a patient\u2019s past, current, and future health. \u0026nbsp;The field represents a true example of convergent science, with biologists, chemists, physicists, engineers, and computational scientists coming together to understand the fundamentals and develop new ways to treat human diseases.
