{"337591":{"#nid":"337591","#data":{"type":"news","title":"GVU Center Announces 2014 Foley Scholars","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EThe \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/gvu.gatech.edu\/\u0022\u003EGVU Center\u003C\/a\u003E at Georgia Tech this week announced the 2014 Foley Scholars, the center\u2019s highest student honor that recognizes top graduate students for outstanding research contributions.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThe Foley Scholars for 2014 are:\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cul\u003E\u003Cli\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EMason Bretan\u003C\/strong\u003E, a Ph.D. candidate in music technology, who researches robotic musicianship by developing systems that interact with humans through musical scenarios.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EDeana Brown\u003C\/strong\u003E, a Ph.D. student in human-centered computing, who designs, prototypes and studies social and ubiquitous technologies.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EAlex Zook\u003C\/strong\u003E, a Ph.D. candidate in human-centered computing, who researches the creation of artificially intelligent (AI) systems that can augment game design and development.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003C\/ul\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThe students will be recognized at the Foley Scholars Dinner on Wednesday, Oct. 29.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThe Foley Scholars were selected from a group of eight accomplished finalists, all showing tremendous potential and impact in shaping technology for a broad range of challenges in modern society. The other finalists include \u003Cstrong\u003ELaura Barg-Walkow\u003C\/strong\u003E, \u003Cstrong\u003ECasey Fiesler\u003C\/strong\u003E,\u003Cstrong\u003E Hwajung Hong\u003C\/strong\u003E, \u003Cstrong\u003EAditi Misra\u003C\/strong\u003E, and \u003Cstrong\u003EAndrew Quitmeyer\u003C\/strong\u003E.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThe \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/gvu-web2.cc.gatech.edu\/research\/grants-and-scholarships\/james-d-foley-gvu-center-endowment#About Foley Scholars\u0022\u003EJames D. Foley GVU Center Endowment\u003C\/a\u003E provides graduate fellowships of $5,000. The scholarship is awarded on a merit basis for overall brilliance and potential impact of student research.
