Tech Issues Advisory for Outbound International Travel

With the holidays approaching, faculty, staff, and students will be making both domestic and international travel plans. Because the safety of the campus community is paramount, Georgia Tech is strongly recommending against travel to countries where the U.S. Department of State has issued an official Travel Warning or where there is other reliable information of significant health or safety risks.

In light of the Ebola outbreak in West Africa, Georgia Tech is asking anyone planning or considering travel to Ebola-affected countries to contact Dr. Gregory Moore, senior director of Stamps Health Services, prior to departure. Moore is Georgia Tech’s designated point of contact regarding potential travel to and from Ebola-affected countries. He and the Stamps Health Services staff will share the latest advisories, guidance, and travel and re-entry rules and procedures from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Georgia Department of Public Health, and the Georgia Ebola Response Team.

Additionally, students, faculty, and staff who do travel to Ebola-affected countries must contact Moore upon re-entry into the United States to share guidance from state and federal public health officials and to receive additional Georgia Tech-related instructions.

While the final decision about travel to such a country is the individual’s, Georgia Tech reserves the right to require an appropriate release or waiver before permitting business travel.
