The event, held at FCC headquarters in Washington, D.C., allowed industry and emergency communications specialists the opportunity to present innovations in emergency, assistive, and accessible technologies and services that increase information and communications access in the event of an emergency. With goals of advancing inclusive and accessible wireless emergency communications for all, the sessions included presentations from wireless carriers, government agencies, academia, advocates, and providers of accessible notifications systems.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.iac.gatech.edu\/faculty-and-staff\/faculty\/bio\/mitchell\u0022\u003EHelena Mitchell\u003C\/a\u003E, regent\u0027s researcher in the School of Public Policy and executive director of the \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.cacp.gatech.edu\/\u0022\u003ECenter for Advanced Communications Policy\u003C\/a\u003E (CACP), participated in the panel \u003Cem\u003EDisability Strategies for Research and Action in the Field\u003C\/em\u003E, discussing the work of the \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.wirelessrerc.gatech.edu\/\u0022\u003EWireless Rehabilitation Engineering Research Center\u003C\/a\u003E (Wireless RERC) and several Department of Human Services (DHS) Homeland Security grants related to emergency alerts for people with disabilities.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThe FCC\u2019s Technology Experience Center also hosted an exhibition of prototypes and technology solutions designed to increase independence and protective active decisions by people with disabilities during times of local or national emergencies.
