Exploring New Science Opportunities with the National Synchrotron Light Source II

This workshop will explore the collective interest from the GT community on models for scientific engagement with the newly commissioned National Synchrotron Light Source II. The NSLS II is the newest DOE synchrotron facility that incorporates the latest developments in X-ray generation and optics. The projected beamlines will boast some of the brightest and smallest X-ray probes in the world, and together with cutting-edge detectors, they will allow for materials research with unprecedented spatial, temporal and energy resolution. The workshop will be delineated along three topics with varying focus of methodological approach. While these three topics are not fully orthogonal to each other and may not encompass all the potential interest resident in the GT community, they will help to structure the discussions during the workshop.

The topics are:

• T1: Chemically Speciated 3-D Tomography of hard and soft materials
• T2: Time and Spatially Resolved Operando Studies of Reaction mechanisms
• T3: Surface/near-surface phenomena with Nanoscale Depth Discrimination.

Registration can be found at http://materials.gatech.edu/workshop/exploring-new-science-opportunities-national-synchrotron-light-source-ii
