387461 news 1426241759 1475895775 <![CDATA[Nunn School Students Take Career Trip to DC]]> Last week, 12 Nunn School students went on a two-day trip to Washington D.C. for career-related activities. This annual Washington DC Career Visit is a signature of our career development program, designed to provide students with connections and exposure to professional networks. On Thursday afternoon, students visited with the Partnership for Public Service, and met with alumni on staff, as well as an alumni representative from the US Department of State. Alumni shared their inspirations for pursuing careers in service, discussed skills and competencies often valued by federal agencies, and shared tips and best practices for applying for positions in the federal government.

A day-long briefing was held on Friday at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, where the students met with scholars and discussed current events such as ISIS, the Ukraine Crisis, and Cybersecurity.  ThatFriday evening, approximately 45 students and alumni attended a reception at GTRI in Arlington where students were able to network with alumni and receive valuable career advice.  While they were in DC, students completed individual networking interviews with alumni in their career fields of choice. Students found the visit to be extremely productive and beneficial, allowing them to consider career paths not previously considered, and granting them access to numerous alumni and potential contacts for internships, jobs, graduate school programs and additional networking.
