{"387741":{"#nid":"387741","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Volunteers Sought for Staff Council Committees","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003ENow that elections for Georgia Tech\u2019s Staff Council are complete and work has begun, the Council is looking to fill its five standing committees.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u201cIt is critical that we recruit a diverse and talented group of staff to be involved on the Council,\u201d said Staff Council Chair Rick Clark. \u201cCommittee membership is a great way for all staff to have a voice in important decisions and direction.\u201d\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EFor consideration, interested Georgia Tech staff members must meet the criteria outlined below and \u003Cstrong\u003E\u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/staffcouncil.gatech.edu\/CommitteeApplication\u0022\u003Esubmit their application online\u003C\/a\u003E\u003C\/strong\u003E\u0026nbsp;by Friday, March 27, at 11:59 p.m. All applicants will be contacted by the committee chair no later than April 8.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Ch6\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/h6\u003E\u003Ch4\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003ECommittee Member Criteria\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/h4\u003E\u003Cp\u003EEligible employees must:\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cul\u003E\u003Cli\u003EBe a full-or part-time (at least 20 hours per week) staff member.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003EHave completed six months of service at Georgia Tech as of March 31, 2015.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003EBe employed with an eligible staff title. (The following staff titles are ineligible to serve on the Council or its committees: Institute president, executive vice presidents, provost, vice presidents, associate vice presidents, dean of students, academic faculty, research faculty, and retirees.)\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003EHave support of supervisor.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003EBe able to spend three to five hours per month on committee work.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/li\u003E\u003C\/ul\u003E\u003Cp\u003EEach committee will have between eight and 12 members, plus a committee chair. Due to the limited size of each committee, interested staff should be specific in explaining their skills and desires for committee membership.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EAlthough staff members may serve on only one committee, they are encouraged to apply for more than one committee, listing their preferences in order of interest.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Ch4\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003ECommittees\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/h4\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThe Staff Council currently has five committees.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Ch6\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003ECampus Physical Environment\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/h6\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThis committee will focus on topics such as:\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cul\u003E\u003Cli\u003EConsiderations that Georgia Tech is a multi-campus institution.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003EAccessibility to campus.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003ESecurity and safety of the campus environment.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003ETransportation and parking needs to and from each campus and around campus.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003EConsideration that Georgia Tech campuses operate on a 24\/7 schedule.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003ESustainability for each campus to reduce its carbon footprint.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003C\/ul\u003E\u003Ch6\u003ECommunication\u003C\/h6\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThis committee will work to:\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cul\u003E\u003Cli\u003EPromote the activities of the Staff Council and its standing committees.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003EContribute to ongoing communication initiatives of the Council to help ensure transparent, timely, and relevant communication to target audiences.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003EWork regularly with the other standing committees to facilitate consistency and professionalism of communication efforts originating from those groups.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003EEngage with the Office of Human Resources, Institute Communications and other appropriate units to publicize council initiatives, achievements, and other relevant information to the Georgia Tech staff at large.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003C\/ul\u003E\u003Ch6\u003ECompensation and Benefits\u003C\/h6\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThis committee will work to:\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cul\u003E\u003Cli\u003EBe a voice for advocating issues relevant to Georgia Tech employees.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003EPartner, collaborate, and engage with the Office of Human Resources to represent the interests of staff employees and work with organizations such as the Faculty Benefits Committee to achieve a favorable outcome relevant to compensation and benefits.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003C\/ul\u003E\u003Ch6\u003EEmployee Engagement\u003C\/h6\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThis committee will work to:\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cul\u003E\u003Cli\u003EAddress topics specific to the employee experience at Georgia Tech, including staff retention efforts, recognition, diversity, fair treatment, and employee engagement in ways that reinforce Institute values and fit within the Institute\u2019s mission.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003C\/ul\u003E\u003Ch6\u003EEmployee Health and Well-being\u003C\/h6\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThis committee will work to:\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cul\u003E\u003Cli\u003EInspire, encourage, and support employees in the pursuit of their chosen work\/life balance, community service endeavors, and health and wellness objectives.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003EProvide recommendations for resources for support and assistance.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003EGive employees a confidential forum to express their concerns and ideas about the state of health and well-being for staff at Georgia Tech.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003C\/ul\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Ch4\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EOther Staff Council Actions\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/h4\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThe Staff Council currently meets twice monthly.
