{"401251":{"#nid":"401251","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Office of the Arts Announces the 2015-16 Arts@Tech Performance Season","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EThe Office of the Arts at Georgia Tech announces the 2015-16 Arts @ Tech performance season, the first under the leadership of Madison Cario, director of Arts @ Tech.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThe theme of the new season is \u201cGet Your Game On!\u201d and reflects a new excitement and expanded mission for the arts at Georgia Tech.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThe season includes 25 music, dance, theater, and spoken word performances \u2013 many of which feature community and campus engagement experiences and school-day matinees in addition to evening performances.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThe 2015-16 season will make connections to the different games we play, be they metaphorical connections or literal. Director Madison Cario selected the theme of \u201cGet Your Game On!\u201d because of the unique ability games have to unite or divide us in a common interest.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EWhether it\u2019s a physical game that requires turf and a ball, a screen and controller, or the games of language, gender, and dress, games are a performative part of our everyday existence capable of both uniting and dividing.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u201cThis season we showcase productions, installations, experiences and performances that integrate dance, theater, live electronic music, sound, collage, spoken word, AI, video mapping, robotics, gravity, architecture, interactive media and live design,\u201d Cario states. \u201cWe will present works that ask questions about what it means to be a person and the role of art and technology in the presentation of self, the presentation of culture, the presentation of equity.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EWe will wrestle with universal themes and everyday epics: How do I find love? What brings me joy? How will I get there? Why am I here? What do I want to do with my life? How can I make a difference in this world?\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EIn these works, we will extract and highlight our choreographic obsession with how we wear our identity \u2013 real and digital - working with themes of race, drag, gender, and the \u201cother\u201d as sources of power. How do we get in the game and stay in the game?\u201d\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThe Arts @ Tech season features multiple residency programs and features new two-year collaborations with artists Marc Bamuthi Joseph and GLO ATL. Marc Bamuthi Joseph will work on campus as he develops his new show about soccer\u003Cstrong\u003E: \/peh LO tah\/.\u003C\/strong\u003E\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EGLO ATL will create \u003Cstrong\u003EThe Yard\u003C\/strong\u003E, a cultural mapping experiment\u0026nbsp;of the Georgia Tech campus.
